CertainTeed Ridge Vent Installation: The Ventura Owner’s Guide

If your CertainTeed ridge vent is cracked, leaking, or pulling away from the roof, we stock and install CertainTeed-compatible ridge vent in Ventura, with most replacements running $450 to $950 for a standard single-story home. We’re usually able to get it done same week, and every job starts with a written price before any work begins. Most homeowners in Ventura discover the failure the hard way: a water stain on the ceiling after a winter rain, or shingle granules collecting in the gutter right below the ridge line. The marine layer that rolls through Ventura nearly every morning keeps roofing materials damp far longer than inland areas, and that persistent moisture is exactly what breaks down ridge vent plastic over time.

This page covers which CertainTeed ridge vent models we work with, what fails, what it costs, and whether you should climb up there yourself. Erik Lindgren and our Ventura crew have been swapping out failed ridge vents along the coast for years, and we’ve seen every failure mode CertainTeed’s product line can throw at a roof.

Key takeaways:

  • We install CertainTeed ridge vent on Ventura homes, typically for $450 to $950 installed, depending on roof length and pitch.
  • We match your existing vent profile so the new section blends with the old, no mismatched ridge lines.
  • Every job includes a written price, shoe covers and drop cloths inside, and a photo of the finished clean-up.
  • A live person answers when you call (350) 240-5534, any hour, any day.

Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

CertainTeed makes ridge vent under a few different product names, and the model you have determines what we bring on the truck. The most common one we see on Ventura roofs is the CertainTeed Ridge Vent, a rigid plastic vent with an external baffle design that sits along the peak and gets covered by ridge cap shingles. CertainTeed also makes the ShingleVent II, which has a lower profile and a slightly different baffle layout. The two are not interchangeable: ShingleVent II sits about an inch lower than the standard Ridge Vent, and if we installed the wrong profile, the cap shingles would not lay flat at the eaves and rakes.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha that catches a lot of homeowners: CertainTeed ridge vent is designed to work with CertainTeed ridge cap shingles, but it also crosses over cleanly with most architectural shingle lines. The real issue is matching the vent to the existing roof’s ridge length and nail line. If someone installed vent in the past that was too narrow for the cut opening, the vent sits proud and catches wind. In Ventura, where Santa Ana winds hit 40 to 50 mph a few times a year, a proud ridge vent will start flapping at the ends within a season or two. When we replace it, we match the vent width to the actual cut opening, not just the shingle width above it.

Birchbark Roofing Ventura is an independent roofing contractor. We’re not affiliated with CertainTeed, but we work with their ridge vent products regularly, and we also stock compatible vent from GAF and Owens Corning when a homeowner prefers to switch brands at the peak.

Signs Your CertainTeed Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing

  • Water stains on the ceiling directly below the ridge – This usually means the vent’s end caps have come loose or the cap shingles have broken away from wind, letting rain drive sideways into the attic. In Ventura’s rainy winters, this shows up as a slow brown patch, not a dramatic pour.
  • Granules washing down the roof slope from the ridge line – The ridge cap shingles above the vent take the worst of both sun and wind. Once they start losing granules, the mat underneath absorbs moisture and degrades fast, and that pulls the vent’s fasteners loose.
  • Attic feels hotter than it should in summer – A working ridge vent pulls hot air out continuously. When the vent baffles get clogged with dust or the vent gets crushed by foot traffic, attic temperatures climb, and your air conditioner works harder. In Ventura’s August heat spells, you’ll notice the upstairs rooms staying warm long after sunset.
  • Visible cracking or sagging along the peak – Walk the property and look up at the ridge from the street or backyard. CertainTeed’s UV-stabilized plastic does crack eventually, especially along the south-facing ridge line, which gets baked by direct sun ten hours a day in summer.
  • Birds or rodents getting into the attic – Failed end caps or broken baffles leave openings big enough for starlings and roof rats. We’ve pulled nests out of ridge vent more times than we can count, and in the Midtown neighborhood around the old mission, where mature trees hang over rooflines, it’s a year-round issue.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a standard Ventura single-story home with a ridge line between 20 and 40 linear feet, a complete CertainTeed ridge vent replacement runs $450 to $950 installed. That includes removing the old vent, inspecting the cut opening for rot, installing the new vent with the right fasteners, replacing the ridge cap shingles, and hauling away every scrap of the old material. If we find rotted sheathing or rafter ends at the opening, that’s a separate conversation, and you’ll get a separate written price before we touch it.

What drives the range: roof pitch (anything steeper than a 7/12 takes longer and costs a bit more), ridge length, and whether the existing cut opening needs to be widened or repaired. A two-story home adds $150 to $300 in most cases, mostly for safety setup and ladder time. You’ll see the exact number in writing before any work starts, and it won’t change unless we uncover something structural and you approve the extra work in writing first.

Every installation carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the vent fails or the cap shingles lift within a year of the install, we come back and make it right on our dime.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely inspect a ridge vent from the ground with binoculars, or from an upstairs window if you have a clear sightline. Look for cracked plastic, missing end caps, lifted cap shingles, and any gap between the vent and the shingle line. That kind of inspection is worth doing once a year, especially after Santa Ana wind events.

What we do not recommend is walking the ridge line yourself. Ridge vent installation is not a high-tension hazard like garage door springs or electrical work, but it does mean working at the highest point of the roof, on a pitch that is easy to misjudge, often in direct heat. The plastic vent is surprisingly brittle once it’s a few years old, and stepping on it collapses the baffles and cuts your attic ventilation without you knowing it. If you suspect a failure, call (350) 240-5534 and we’ll walk the roof and tell you straight what it needs. The inspection is part of the free estimate.
