How Birchbark Roofing Ventura Was Born in Ventura
We didn’t name this company. Cedarwell did, years before we ever brought it to Ventura. But when we opened our doors here in 2000, we made a quiet promise to ourselves that the brand would mean something specific in this city, something people could feel when they hired us.
What we saw in Ventura, twenty-six years ago, was a lot of the same thing: roofers who rushed, who left nails in the driveway, who gave a verbal estimate and then handed over an invoice that didn’t match it. Families here deserved better. Not louder marketing, not a bigger truck, just work done carefully from the first walk-around to the final sweep of the driveway. The Cedarwell Care Promise was already written. Our job was to live it, job after job, in this town. So that’s what we’ve been doing.
Erik Lindgren was there from the start, and he still is. When a homeowner calls with a leak over the kitchen table, he’s the one thinking about the drop cloths that go over that table before anyone touches a ladder. That’s the kind of care that built this branch. That’s the only way we’ve ever wanted to run it.
Erik Lindgren’s Personal Connection to the Roofing Trade
Erik Lindgren didn’t grow up dreaming about shingles. He grew up in a house where things got fixed properly or they didn’t get fixed at all, and he carried that into every job he ever took. When he first got into roofing, it wasn’t for the view from the top, though the view from a roof in Ventura, looking out toward the Channel Islands on a clear morning, is something that never gets old. It was for the satisfaction of finishing a day and seeing exactly what your hands accomplished. A straight ridge line. A clean valley. A roof that will shed water for decades.
He remembers the first roof he ever tore off by hand, the weight of the old shakes, the smell of cedar dust and warm tar, the way his forearms ached for two days after. He remembers standing back at the end of it and thinking, this matters. A roof is the one thing a family can’t go without. When it fails, everything under it is at risk. That responsibility grabbed him and never let go.
What gets him out of bed now isn’t the roofing itself, though he still loves the craft. It’s the families. He’s met homeowners in Oak View who’d been told by other companies that their whole roof needed replacing when all they needed was a repair around a single vent. He’s walked through homes in Port Hueneme where the kids’ bedrooms were right under the work area, and he’s made sure the crew kept it quiet during naptime. If he weren’t roofing, he says he’d probably be building furniture, something with his hands, something that lasts. But roofing found him first, and Ventura is where he stayed.
Meet Erik Lindgren – The Person Behind Every Job
Erik Lindgren is the Owner & Founder of Birchbark Roofing Ventura. He has spent more than twenty-five years in the roofing trade, the last twenty-six of them serving homeowners across Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, Ojai, and the surrounding communities. His training is hands-on and continuous: he has torn off old cedar shakes, installed architectural asphalt shingles from GAF and CertainTeed, and worked with tile and metal systems that stand up to coastal salt air and Santa Ana winds.
He is not a franchise technician who shows up, completes a checklist, and drives away. He is the person who walks your roofline with you, points out what he sees, and tells you honestly whether something needs work now or can wait. Erik is a careful listener, a patient explainer, and something of a perfectionist about cleanup. His commitment to every customer is simple: treat the house like his own, protect what’s inside it, and show the family exactly what was done before the crew leaves.
Our Promise to Ventura Homeowners
We work to one promise: The Cedarwell Care Promise. It isn’t a slogan. It’s a checklist we follow on every job, and it’s backed by the C.A.R.E. code every Cedarwell location works to.
Clean up like it is our own home. Shoe covers and drop cloths inside the house, a magnet sweep of the driveway for nails before we leave, and a photo of the clean-up so you can see it for yourself.
Ask before we move or touch anything. Patio furniture, potted plants, the kids’ bikes by the garage: we ask first, every time.
Respect the family’s time and quiet hours. If the baby’s asleep, we use quiet tools or wait. If you work nights, we plan around your schedule.
Explain the price before the work. No surprises. A written price in dollars, in your hand, before anything starts.
That’s the promise. We’ve built our Ventura branch on it.
Our Credentials
Every pro working under the Birchbark Roofing name is required to hold the license and insurance their state requires. We carry insurance and bonding as this market demands, and we are qualified to work on residential and commercial roofs across Ventura County.
- State-licensed: Required for every pro, checked before they step onto your property.
- Insured & bonded: Coverage that protects your home and your family while work is underway.
- Local experience: More than two decades of roofing knowledge specific to Ventura, Oak View, Port Hueneme, and the coastal communities we serve.
- Strong local reputation: Our name gets passed from neighbor to neighbor, which is the reputation that matters most to us.
Why do these matter to you? Because the person on your roof should be accountable. A license means training and standards. Insurance means you’re not on the hook if something unexpected happens. And local experience means we’ve seen how Ventura’s morning marine layer and afternoon sun affect different roofing materials, and we plan for it.
Rooted in Ventura
We work all over the county, from Santa Paula to Somis to Moorpark, but our roots are in Ventura. We know the homes in Midtown with their cedar shake roofs from the sixties. We know the neighborhoods up in the hills where the wind hits differently. We shop local, we hire local, and we answer the phone when a neighbor calls with a question about a leak. Ventura is home, not just a service area.
