Boral Ridge Vent Installation: The Ventura Owner’s Guide

If your Boral roof has a ridge vent that’s cracked, pulling loose, or letting rain blow in, we stock Boral-compatible ridge vent material and install it throughout Ventura. Most Boral ridge vent installations in Ventura run between $450 and $950, depending on linear footage and whether we’re pulling and replacing the old vent or adding a run where none existed. You’ll usually notice the problem after a winter storm, when water stains show up on the ceiling near an exterior wall, or when you spot a section of ridge vent lifted or missing from the street.

We’re an independent roofing contractor, not affiliated with Boral, but we work with their roof tile systems often enough to know the ridge vent details that matter. Erik Lindgren has been working roofs along the California coast for the better part of three decades, and he’ll tell you the same thing he tells every Ventura homeowner: a ridge vent that looks “mostly fine” from the ground is often quietly letting moisture into the attic. The marine layer we get in Ventura doesn’t help. It keeps things damp long after the rain stops.

Which Boral Models This Applies To

Boral’s concrete and clay tile roof systems, including the Barcelona, Mission, and Flat profile lines, typically use a low-profile ridge vent designed to sit under the ridge cap tiles. The vent itself is a continuous strip, usually 4 feet per section, made of a UV-stabilized polymer with an internal baffle. The key compatibility factor is the width of the vent opening cut into the roof deck and the profile height of the cap tiles above it. Too tall a vent and your cap tiles won’t sit flush. Too short and you lose airflow.

Owners should match the replacement vent to the same profile type, not just the same brand. If you can’t read the old vent’s markings, measure the exposed width of the vent slot and the height of the vent above the roof deck. We’re happy to identify the right match during a free estimate. In most cases, OEM Boral vent material is the safest choice because it’s profiled for Boral cap tiles specifically. Quality aftermarket vents can work, but we’ve seen mismatched profiles create gaps that let wind-driven rain under the cap tiles. On coastal Ventura homes, that’s a problem within the first season.

Signs Your Boral Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing

  • Water stains on ceilings near exterior walls. This usually means the vent’s end caps or baffles have failed and rain is running down the inside of the vent channel into the attic.
  • Visible cracks or warping in the vent strip. Ventura’s sun exposure is hard on polymer vent material. After 10 to 15 years, UV degradation makes the plastic brittle, and sections can crack open.
  • Cap tiles sitting unevenly or rattling in wind. If the underlying vent has shifted or broken, the cap tiles lose their support bed and start moving.
  • Higher attic temperatures in summer. A blocked or crushed vent can’t exhaust hot air. If your attic feels dramatically hotter than previous summers, the vent may have collapsed internally.
  • Birds or rodents in the attic. A broken ridge vent is an open doorway. We see this often in Ventura’s older hillside neighborhoods, where squirrels and roof rats are persistent.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A straightforward Boral ridge vent replacement in Ventura runs between $450 and $950 for most single-story homes. The range moves based on the linear feet of vent, whether cap tiles need to be removed and reset, and whether any plywood decking around the vent opening needs repair. If we’re installing a new ridge vent where a home never had one, the cost is typically higher because we’re cutting the slot, adjusting the underlayment, and flashing the transition.

Every estimate includes a written price in dollars before any work starts. You’ll see the line items: vent material, flashing, fasteners, labor, and disposal of the old vent. No change orders, no verbal allowances. Our work comes with the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the vent isn’t right, we make it right. That’s stamped on every job, including yours.

DIY or Call Us?

Getting onto a tile roof to work at the ridge is dangerous, and Boral cap tiles are heavy and easy to crack under foot traffic. We don’t recommend DIY ridge vent work on any tile roof, especially a two-story Ventura home with a steep pitch. What you can safely do is check from the ground with binoculars for signs of cracking or lifted cap tiles, and keep an eye on ceiling stains inside. If you see anything concerning, call us at (350) 240-5534.

The real risk with DIY ridge vent work is what you can’t see from the ridge: the underlayment condition around the vent opening. If the old vent has been leaking, the decking underneath may be soft or starting to delaminate. That’s a repair you want done by someone who has been on enough coastal California roofs to know what wet decking looks like before it fails completely.
