Tamko Ridge Vent Installation: The Ventura Owner’s Guide
Tamko ridge vent installation in Ventura typically runs between $380 and $760 for most single-story homes, depending on how many linear feet of ridge you have and whether the old vent comes off cleanly. We keep Tamko-compatible ridge vent material on the truck, so in most cases we can replace a failed or worn ridge vent in a single visit once we’ve taken measurements. Most Ventura homeowners discover the problem two ways: either they spot cracked or brittle plastic from the yard, or they notice the attic feels like a sauna in August and the shingles near the ridge are curling faster than the rest of the roof.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To
If your roof has a Tamko ridge vent, odds are it’s the Tamko Airvent ridge cap system or a Tamko-compatible roll vent like the ones sold alongside their Heritage and Titan XT shingle lines. The important thing to know is that Tamko ridge vents are sized by the width of the ridge opening, not by shingle brand, so a 12-inch roll vent on a Tamko roof may be interchangeable with several quality aftermarket equivalents. That said, we match the profile carefully because a vent that’s too narrow chokes airflow and one that’s too wide leaks under wind-driven rain. The reliable way to identify what you have is to look at the end cap at the gable edge: most Tamko vents have a molded profile, and a quick measurement of the slot width tells us exactly which replacement will sit flush against the existing shingles. Birchbark Roofing Ventura is an independent roofer, not affiliated with Tamko, and we’ll give you a straight recommendation on whether an OEM Tamko part matters for your roof or whether an equivalent product performs just as well for less.

Signs Your Tamko Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing
- Cracked or crumbling plastic along the ridge. In Ventura, salt air and intense UV do a number on exposed plastic. Once the outer shell starts to shed small pieces, water has a path into the vent channel, and the clock is running on the plywood underneath.
- Attic temperature climbing year over year. A ridge vent that’s squashed, clogged with dust, or partially blocked by a botched install can’t exhaust hot air. You’ll feel it in the upstairs rooms first.
- Shingles near the ridge curling prematurely. When the ridge vent isn’t pulling heat out, the shingles right at the ridge line take the brunt of it. Curling shingles and a failing vent often show up together.
- Water staining on the ceiling near a gable end. Wind-driven rain can sneak under a ridge vent whose edge seal has failed or whose end caps have gone missing. In Ventura’s winter storms, this is one of the most common things we find.
- You can see daylight through the ridge slot from the attic. A well-installed ridge vent has a baffle that blocks direct light. If you see clear gaps, the vent material has shifted or degraded and you’re losing weather protection.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a typical Ventura ranch or two-story home with 30 to 50 linear feet of ridge, a Tamko-style ridge vent replacement lands between $380 and $760 installed. The range comes down to access, roof pitch, how much old caulk and nail residue we have to clean off the ridge line, and whether the existing vent was installed with nails that have now rusted and need pulling. You’ll see a written price in dollars before any work starts, so there’s no discovery conversation halfway through. The price includes removal of the failed vent, inspection of the ridge slot for rot or damage, installation of the new vent with proper overlap and end caps, and a new shingle cap over the vent where needed. Every job carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
If you’re just looking at the vent from the ground and want a sense of whether it’s failing, grab binoculars and check for cracks, missing end caps, or shingles lifting along the ridge. That’s a safe look. What we don’t recommend is going up on a Ventura roof to swap a ridge vent yourself. You’re working at the highest point of the house with the least forgiving fall angle, and a proper install means removing shingles, checking the slot width, and nailing into solid decking at the exact right spacing. One misstep on a two-story home isn’t worth saving a few hundred dollars. If you want it done right and done safely, call us at (350) 240-5534 and we’ll measure, price it in writing, and handle the whole thing.
FAQs
Expect 12 to 18 years from a plastic ridge vent in Ventura’s salt-tinged air and strong sun. Coastal exposure shortens it; a shaded, inland roof can outlast that range. Call (350) 240-5534 and we’ll tell you what your specific vent is showing.
Usually no. If one end cap is missing, we can sometimes match and replace just that piece, but cracked or brittle vent material means the whole run is near the end of its life. Patching a degraded vent buys a season, not a solution.
Most ridge vent replacements take half a day, including tear-off of the old vent, deck inspection, and new vent installation. If we find rot in the ridge board, the job extends, and we’ll show you photos and a line-item written price before touching it.
We stock Tamko-compatible ridge vent material on the truck, along with GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed options, so in most cases we can complete the replacement same visit. If your roof calls for something outside the standard profiles, we’ll have it within a couple of days.
If your Tamko ridge vent is showing its age, don’t wait for a wet ceiling to confirm the problem. Call (350) 240-5534 and we’ll schedule a free estimate, measure everything up, and hand you a written price in dollars before any work starts.
